I think the big problem was you had to use oxegen + propane, so a farmer would need to buy 2 gases to run it. The gas tanks are removed from the tractor now. I believe the fellow said it could run on regular gas if was clean and had no additives. RoyJ wrote on Saturday, September 06, 2008 (PDT): A little more research on the tractor brought out the fact that the alkaline type fuel cell was easily poisoned by the impurities in the propane fuel they ran it on in those days. I doubt if they ever got more than a few hundred hours on the cells. Running it on pure hydrogen might be a different story. TexasWren wrote on Thursday, September 11, 2008 (PDT): "PURE" is the operative word, even today. Hydrogen has to be ultra-pure to keep from contaminating fuel cells, which is one reason there aren't any commercial fuel-cell cars on the road right now. The other reason is cost.
